Epdox-50 (Cefpodoxime Oral Suspension) is an antibiotic medication primarily used in children to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It contains Cefpodoxime Proxetil as the active ingredient, formulated as a dry syrup that is reconstituted before use.

Key Features:
– Indication: Epdox-50 is prescribed for the treatment of bacterial infections affecting the lungs, throat, airways, nose, ears, skin, tonsils, and sinuses. It is effective against respiratory tract infections (such as bronchitis, pneumonia, tonsillitis), skin and soft tissue infections, and certain ear and sinus infections.
– Mechanism of Action: Cefpodoxime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to the destruction of the bacteria causing the infection.
– Dosage Form: The product is supplied as a dry syrup (to be reconstituted with water), typically in a 30 ml bottle containing 50 mg of cefpodoxime per 5 ml after reconstitution.
– Administration: The syrup is intended for oral use and should be given as directed by a healthcare professional. Dosage depends on the child’s age, weight, and the severity of the infection.
– Storage: Once reconstituted, the oral suspension should be stored in a refrigerator (2°C to 8°C) and used within 14 days. Shake well before each use.
– Precautions: Epdox-50 should be used under medical supervision. Inform your doctor about any allergies, ongoing medications, or medical conditions before starting therapy. Complete the full course as prescribed, even if symptoms improve earlier.
– Side Effects: Common side effects may include diarrhea, vomiting, rash, or mild stomach upset. Serious side effects are rare but can include severe allergic reactions, antibiotic-associated diarrhea (C. difficile), liver or kidney issues, and severe skin reactions. Promptly report any unusual or severe symptoms to a healthcare provider.
