3. Pharmacological Action of Ingredients
A. Terbutaline Sulphate (1.25mg)
Terbutaline is a selective adrenergic agonist. It works by relaxing the smooth muscles of the airways (bronchodilation), which helps in opening up the lungs and making breathing easier. It is particularly effective for patients suffering from wheezing or shortness of breath.
B. Bromhexine Hydrochloride (2mg)
Bromhexine is a potent mucolytic agent. It works by breaking down the chemical structure of thick, tenacious mucus (phlegm) in the respiratory tract. By thinning the mucus, it becomes less sticky and much easier to cough out.
C. Guaiphenesin (50mg)
Guaiphenesin is an expectorant. It increases the volume and reduces the viscosity of secretions in the trachea and bronchi. This “productive” action helps the natural cilia movement in the airways to push the phlegm out more effectively.
D. Menthol (0.5mg)
Menthol provides a cooling sensation and has a mild local anesthetic effect. It helps soothe an irritated throat and provides a subjective feeling of improved airflow through the nasal passages.
4. Therapeutic Indications
KAFFI-BR is typically prescribed for the symptomatic treatment of:
